Instituto de Bateria Vera Figueiredo
| Vera Figueiredo Drum Institute
a drum and Brazilian percussion school located in
São Paulo, Brazil. It was founded in 1993 by Vera
Figueiredo. At that time, she already was a
requested drummer playing with several artists, and
a composer who released her first solo album. Since
then, Vera has already released other albums, book
and educational videos.
The IBVF Produções was founded right after the
school. In the 90’s, it wasn’t so easy as now to
produce clinics in Brazil. However, Vera was decided
to show to the IBVF students other ways to improve
their learning. That’s why she started the
production of a succession of events with Billy
Cobham’s clinic, followed by Carmine Appice, Dave
Weckl, Clayton Cameron, Frank Gambale, Mike Stern,
among others. The IBVF Produções also produced the
guitarist Mike Stern’s concert in São Paulo city,
Brazil. The Mike Stern Trio were also formed by
Dennys Chambers (drums) and Lincoln Goines (bass).
Vera wanted to improve the student’s learning, but
also provide good music to everyone interested in
music, student or not. She also had the goal to
create space to new talents of drums. As a result of
her reflection about it, in 1996, she produced the
first edition of Batuka! Brasil. Included in the
festival program: concerts, clinics, performances
and lectures, as well as the National Drummer
Contest. The project has changed, until the actual
format, which is always open to improvements. Batuka!
Brasil celebrated fourteen editions, and it features
among the greatest drum festivals in the world.
the IBVF school started offering the course
Brazilian Percussion – Instruments of Samba. Julio
Cesar Barro is the teacher and the course
coordinator. We also offer the course Listening,
Reading, Writing and Playing, available to all music
students, regardless of the instrument they are
learning to play.
masterclass ministered by drummers and
percussionists from Brazil and other countries have
been held in the Sala Rubens Barsotti, in the IBVF
2011, as a result of a partnership with the Santa
Marcelina University, the IBVF included in its
program, as an option to the students, the prep
course to Bachelor Degree in Music.
Giving to the students all the tools they need to
improve their skills is the IBVF’s main goal. With
these tools, they will be able to become musicians
capable of working in any are of the musical scenery.
Vera is drum teacher and courses supervisor at IBVF.
She keeps on searching tools to help the students
during their journey of learning.
